Uluru 3 day tour: what a multi-day trip adds, and how to build the same three days here

Nothing on this site runs longer than a single day, and that is the first thing to say out loud on a page about an Uluru 3 day tour. What sells under that name is a package: a bed for two nights, a seat in a coach or a place at a campsite, and a sequence of the same walks, first lights and desert dinners that the eighteen listings here sell one at a time. Take the package apart and an Uluru 3 day tour is three mornings and three evenings at the same rock with somewhere to sleep in between. That is useful news if you are already holding a room at Ayers Rock Resort or a flight into Yulara, because it means you can assemble the itinerary yourself, in the order you want, out of listings that begin at $69 and reach $300. Below: what the multi-day packages actually contain, a three-day plan built only from what is on this site, what changes if you want to camp, and the questions worth settling before you pay for anything.

Quick answer

The short answer. An Uluru 3 day tour sold as a package is three things bundled: a bed, the driving, and a run of day tours. This site sells only the third, and it sells eighteen of them. If you have somewhere to sleep at Yulara, the practical version of an Uluru 3 day tour is one first-light listing, one long walking or Kata Tjuta listing and one evening listing, spread across three days. Built from the fares here that comes to roughly $291 to $536 per person for the guided part, and you keep control of the order.

The one thing to understand

A multi-day package is a bed, a bus and a list of day tours

Read the small print of almost any Uluru 3 day tour and it separates into three purchases that happen to be sold together: somewhere to sleep for two nights, the transport that moves you between the airport, the bed and the park, and a sequence of guided outings that fill the mornings and evenings. The third of those is what this site lists. The first two are not ours to sell, and we are not going to quote prices for beds or coach seats that no listing here publishes.

Why that matters for the plan. The guided part of an Uluru 3 day tour is almost always assembled from the same operators and the same walks you can see on this page. Sunrise at the rock, the 10.5 kilometre loop around its base, the domes of Kata Tjuta and the Walpa Gorge walk, Mutitjulu Waterhole, rock art in the caves, Bruce Munro’s Field of Light at dawn, telescopes in the national park after dark, a BBQ in the desert. There is no secret fourth day of content hidden inside the package.

What the package genuinely buys you. One booking instead of six, a driver who knows the distances, and somebody else deciding what order things happen in. If you are travelling without a car and you want the whole thing settled in one transaction, that is worth real money. An Uluru 3 day tour removes decisions, and some trips need fewer decisions.

What it costs you. Fixed order, fixed group, and the beds are whatever the operator has contracted. Building the same three days yourself from the listings here means you choose small group over coach, choose whether the evening is telescopes or a BBQ, and choose to spend more time on the base trail than a package would allow. Below is one way to lay it out.

The plan

Three days at the rock, assembled only from the listings on this site

One workable order, not the only one. Every row is a real listing with a real fare; the bed at Ayers Rock Resort and the flight into Yulara are yours to arrange.

DayFareWhat you bookWhy it sits there
Day one, eveningArrival day$69The 1.5-hour run to the sunset-viewing area with nibbles and wineShort, and it starts from Ayers Rock Resort, so it works on a day you have flown in
Day two, first lightThe big walk$131The 10.5 km loop around the entire base of the rock, with a light breakfastFive and a half hours on foot is the single best use of a whole morning here
Day two, after darkTelescopes$91Two and a half hours of stargazing in the national park, photo includedIt is the only listing here built around the night sky rather than the rock
Day three, first lightKata Tjuta$131Sunrise at the rock, then the domes of Kata Tjuta and the Walpa Gorge walkThe second landform in the park, and the fare this site quotes from
Day three, eveningDinner in the desert$230Sparkling wine and a cheeseboard at dusk, then a gourmet BBQ under the starsA last evening that ends with a meal rather than a drive back to the resort

Day by day

What each of those three days actually feels like

Day one is short on purpose. Most people arrive at Yulara in the afternoon, and an Uluru 3 day tour that starts with a five-hour outing on arrival day tends to be the part people remember badly. $69 is ninety minutes: a transfer from Ayers Rock Resort to the sunset-viewing area, nibbles, a glass of wine, and back. It is the lowest fare on this site and the listing says it is wheelchair accessible. Whatever the sky does that evening is the sky’s business, and no listing here promises a colour.

Day two belongs to the base. The loop around the rock is 10.5 kilometres, and walking it is the thing that changes how big the rock seems. $131 covers the whole circuit at first light with a light breakfast and commentary, five and a half hours. $175 is the six-hour small-group version that adds Kantju Gorge and Mutitjulu Waterhole. Either one is the centre of the middle day of an Uluru 3 day tour, and both ask something of your legs.

Day two ends with the sky, not the rock. $91 is two and a half hours in the Uluru and Kata Tjuta National Park with telescopes and a photograph under the stars, 544 reviews at 4.4, transport included and marked likely to sell out. The desert has very little Light in it, which is the whole reason the listing exists. Whether any particular object is visible on a given night is not something the operator promises, and neither do we.

Day three goes to the other landform. People book three days and spend all of them at the rock, then find out on the way to the airport that Kata Tjuta was thirty domes away the whole time. $131 is five hours from Yulara: sunrise, the domes the operator calls mystical, local Aboriginal culture and a walk through Walpa Gorge. At 599 reviews and 4.5 it is also the fare this site quotes from, which makes it an easy third morning.

And the last evening is dinner. $230 runs three and a half hours and finishes with a gourmet BBQ under the stars; $154 is the three-hour version at the AAT kings site inside the national park with the rock as the backdrop; $300 is the five-hour one that takes in the rock by day, at dusk and after dark before the buffet. Any of the three closes an Uluru 3 day tour better than a sandwich at the airport.

Before you book

Seven things to settle while you are still building the itinerary

All of them are either on the listing page or in the booking confirmation.

  • Whether you actually want a package

If you have no car and no room booked, a single purchase covering beds, driving and guiding is a reasonable way to buy three days. If you already have the bed, the package is mostly selling you the order of events, and the listings here sell the rest separately.

  • Where each listing starts from

Almost everything on this site leaves from Ayers Rock Resort or Yulara, and several listings say pickup available. The exception is the full day out of Alice Springs at $280, which is a different town and a different kind of day.

  • How much notice the listing wants

$182 says it must be booked at least fifteen hours in advance, and $131, $133, $175 and $965 say at least ten. Two listings are marked likely to sell out. Three days planned the night before is not a plan.

  • How many first lights you really want

Four listings here start at sunrise and they overlap. Booking three of them into an Uluru 3 day tour means three consecutive early starts and a lot of repetition; two is usually the sensible number, with the third morning spent at Kata Tjuta or asleep.

  • Whether your legs are up to the loop

The base circuit is 10.5 kilometres on sand and rock. $131 and $175 walk all of it; $182 rides all of it; $133 drives round it and walks the best bits. Three different answers to the same question.

  • That the summit is not part of any of this

The climb to the top of the rock has been closed since 2019. Every listing on this site goes around the base, to the waterhole, to the caves and to the viewing areas, and none of them goes up.

  • What happens if a day falls through

Free cancellation applies within the window each listing states, which is the practical argument for booking the three days as three bookings rather than one: a package moves as a block, and separate listings move one at a time.

A walking track winding between the steep red domes of Kata Tjuta, with low green scrub along the path

The other lengths

Camping, two nights, five days, and the trips that are really flights

Two nights, three days. The usual shape sold online is a 3 day 2 night Uluru tour: arrive, one full day in the park, one half day and out. That is exactly the shape the plan above follows, which is why an Uluru 3 day tour built from the listings here fits the same flights.

Camping instead of a resort room. An Uluru camping tour 3 days long swaps the hotel for a campsite and usually a swag, and it is the cheapest way most people find to sleep near the park. None of the eighteen listings on this site includes a bed of any kind, a tent or a meal beyond what the listing itself states, so if camping is what you want you are buying it from an operator we do not list. The guided content is still the same content: an Uluru camping tour 2 days long and an Uluru camping tour 4 days long are the same walks with fewer or more nights around them.

Longer itineraries. A 5 day Uluru tour stretches the idea further with more nights and more driving. What it adds at the rock itself is more of the listings below, not a different rock, so the honest way to read the longer options is as extra time for the things a three-day plan has to leave out. Most Uluru multi day tours also spend a large share of their hours on the road between towns, which is time you keep if you fly straight into Yulara.

And the trips that are not really tours at all. A Mackay to Uluru day trip comes up often enough to answer plainly: Mackay is on the Queensland coast and the Red Centre is most of a continent away, so what is being described is a flight with a tour at the end of it, not a day out. The same goes for a day trip to Uluru from anywhere outside the Northern Territory. Once you have landed, the day tours in Uluru that this site compares are the same eighteen listings whatever your home airport was.

One day, if that is all you have. Plenty of people have a single day, not three. The listings here are Uluru tours 1 day long or shorter, so a single day is a complete product rather than a compromise: $231 is seven hours with two guided walks and a BBQ at dusk, and $280 is the full day from Alice Springs with 845 reviews at 4.7, the most-reviewed listing on this site.

Every trip, current fare

Every listing you can stack into three days, priced by the hour

The other way to read an Uluru 3 day tour: not what the package costs, but what an hour of guiding costs once you are already at the rock. Short evening runs look expensive by the hour and the long walking listings look reasonable, which is what you would expect once you notice that the transfer and the briefing happen once, however long you stay.

Common questions

Three days at the rock, answered

Is there an Uluru 3 day tour on this site?

No. All eighteen listings here are a single day or shorter, and the longest is one day. What this page does instead is show how to build three days out of them, which is what the guided part of a package contains anyway.

How much does three days cost if I book it this way?

The guided part comes to roughly $291 to $536 per person for three listings, depending on which three. Beds, flights and car hire are separate and this site does not quote them.

What should the three days contain?

One first-light listing, one long listing on the base or at Kata Tjuta, and one evening listing. That covers the 10.5 kilometre loop, the second landform in the park and either the night sky or a meal in the desert, without three early starts in a row.

Do I need a car?

Not for these listings. Several say pickup available and most leave from Ayers Rock Resort or Yulara, which is where the accommodation is. A car helps with the viewing areas between bookings and is not needed for any tour on this page.

Can I climb the rock during those three days?

No. The route to the summit has been closed since 2019. Everything on this site walks, rides or drives around the base, and visits the waterhole, the gorges and the caves.

Is Kata Tjuta worth one of the three days?

It is the other landform in the same national park and it has its own walk through Walpa Gorge. $131 covers sunrise and the domes in five hours and carries 599 reviews at 4.5, so one morning buys both.

Which listings are the best Uluru day tours to stack together?

By the numbers on this site: $182 is the best rated at 4.9, $280 has the most reviews at 845, and $131 is the fare we quote from. Those three do not overlap much, which is what you want across three days.

What if the weather ruins one of the days?

Free cancellation applies within the window each listing states, and booking the three days separately means you can move one of them without touching the others. No listing here promises conditions on a given date, and neither does this page.
